Just a quick recommendation on what to use for my v5 sti, i've painted the bonnet and couple of other parts and come out well after a flat off with 1500 then 2000 then 3M trizac pad, then 3M fast cut paste then with the black mop perfct it 3M, finally going over with autoglym super resin polish.
the finish was really good but after a few weeks shine starts to fade and can see some flatting marks. i've painted loads of cars before but never had this problem, can someone shed any light on whats wrong.

as above. but one thing you don't state is how long you left the paint to cure and what you sealed it with afterwards?

 

Sounds like a classic case of drop back, which is the technical term for the reappearance of sanding marks/haze over time. It can be caused by moisture and oils filling the pore spaces in the surface layer of the paint and giving the illusion of a better finish than has actually been achieved. As the paint then subsequently breathes, this moisture and oil content can be lost, resulting in drop back. My advice is to polish it again, this time using a lighter compound like RD3.02, then 85RD to refine the finish. Drop back is a problem that lurks on production lines, and has plagued Aston Martin in recent years. However, given that the lads are given less than a day to flat back and polish out the whole car you can begin to understand why!
