when im driving my car i have been hearing a grinding noise coming from the front left hand side when i had a look i noticed the rubber boot on the drive shaft has split would this cause the grinding noise or dose any one think it could be somthing worse,steven

 

If the boot is split then its likely the drive shaft joint is damaged by lack of lubrication/dirt ingress. Best get replaced asap as it will only get worse.
