Question PC cooling issue...

Well, after a LONG convoluted day resurrecting my PC (see other post about no DVD drive!), I've got CS source, HL2, Richard Burns Rally, ToCA3 ready to run....

The problem?

Well, I'm pretty sure that I'm maxing out the cpu temps, as whilst playing CS source, the PC reset/restarted twice.
Installed MotherboardManager (great bit of software too), and I'm getting

case temp 42
CPU diode circa 70
cpu socket 24

Now, I'm pretty sure that the diode temp should be about 50-odd.

The processor is only an Athlon 2400XP, with about a gig of ram (running XP pro)

My thoughts are the thermal paste has crapped out.
I thought I'd put the cpu fan on the wrong way around (changed it for one that did make too much noise)......

Or despite the fan being the same, it's not pushing the same amount of air....

Thoughts?

Dan

The CPU diode temp is a difficult one, it is only really worth looking at if you're using the original board software .. most other software just reads it wrong !

If the CPU temp is 40 under load you dont have an issue !

would that be the socket temp or the diode temp?

From what I've read both .. the only temp worth looking at with 3rd party software is the CPU temp..
