Default Which windscreen wipers?

I currently have a set of halfords wipers, the driver side has the spoiler on it but unless it is really wet every time it I use them it keeps making a really annoying clicking noise and its really driving me .....

I've seen the ones on scooby world, does anyone have any other recomendations?

I have had a set of the Sparco flat blade ones on the car for a few weeks now and they work well with no squeeks

i bought some of these a while back, absolutly brilliant no squeek, judder or smearing and work very well at high speeds (which i always found a bad on conventional blades) Subaru Impreza 00-07 sti wrx flat wiper blades 22"/16" on eBay, also Wipers, Washers Jets, Exterior Styling, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 03-Sep-08 16:45:16 BST)

Another vote for Bosch from Halfords. Always use these regardless of car.

its the drivers side that clicks when it is at the upright position, just as it flips over and begins its journey back down the windscreen.

I dont think I'm being because I have the spoiler facing down, ie towards the bonnet, which is how I've done it on all my other cars and they have all worked fine ............. I'm sure someone will tell me otherwise if I'm wrong !

Iain,

I have a set of halford wipers on my Fozzy that do exactly the same thing.

I have also been in a couple of other scoobs recently with exactly the same symptom!

Andrew...

its driving me mad, I find myself slowing down the speed of the intermittent wipe so the screen gets wetter so it stops clicking, who cares if you can hardly see when driving on the motorway as long as it doesn't click

thanks andrew, at least i'm not the only one

i wonder if its the wiper arm its self then i.e if there is too much rocking play were the hinge is (next to were it bolts to the car) there will be more movement so the arm will twist more and make wiper click as it wouldnt take much exceive play to do that also same if wiper arm is slightly twisted...
sounds odd but i know wat a mean

yeah the arm itself (were you can pull it up as if washing car)see if it twists at the hinge part alot,(i.e worn pin). cheaked mine and it has no twist at all and there is not much clearance between spoiler and screen, if the arm twists it will let the wiper itself flap a bit am guessing

yeah clarkson wi the tape the mupit and it didnt stop the buzzin

I'll have a look at the weekend when I wash the car .... if it stops raining ....

only other thing I can think of is that it might be the spoiler pushing the wiper down hard onto the screen? ie as I think its the rubber blade making the noise as it switches from going one way to the other

I've tried halfords and bosch ones and they both ended up juddering or something after a while.

I have been using a set of PIAA ones for the past 30k or so and they're still going strong. They have been by far the best wipers I've ever had on any car ever. Cost about £35 if I remember rightly but well worth it. No juddering, squeaking, screeching or anything.

Get some...

I second these PIAA silicone wiper blades. When you first change the blades you clean the screen with special wipes then run the wipers on a dry screen for 5 minutes to coat it with silicone. Going down the motorway in the rain you don't need the wipers, the water just flies off!

And they give no noise at all.

I had the same problem mate, but i managed to sort it out very easily.
Its due to the the pivot points/joints on the blade (not the rubber) being too loose. all i did was get a pair of pliers and crimp them slightly until the clicking stopped. easy

Default PIAA

Just in case you need more convincing, I have to say PIAA are the best set I've used. They coat the screen with a thin layer of silicon, which not only makes the water bead off, but makes the wiper run very smoothly and quietly across the screen.

Is there any special way of applying rainx, i have some here at the bargain price of £2.49 and seeing the wipers have been bugging me of late.

Oh how long does it last for?
