Default P1/v5 Gearbox

Hopefull fitting the above gearbox and matching diff into my 1993 wrx import. Should i notice any real difference to the gearing i.e are the ratios much shorter in the P1 compared to mine and would the shorter gearing help my 1/4 times?

Also is there anything i should be aware off before hand. Ive already been informed by harvey (thanks harvey) that the P1 has 6 fixing bolts where mine is only 4 but is there any other issues i should be aware off. i.e are all the 5 speed cluches the same as mine is an uprated exedy one and is only a year old so depending on condition was hoping to reuse it.

cheers all

drew

Given the power, theoretically.

so the only real benefit from the upgrade would be that they are stronger boxes.

Thats about it other than the internals will no doubt have less fatigue due to the fact they are newer.

Most seem to think a late 54 type casing.

The P1 has a 4.44 diff and .738 5th gear, same as STi 5 or STi6.
Your early WRX could have a 4.11 diff or a 4.44 subject to transmission code but it also has a .825 5th gear.
In effect the P1 box gets to 100 kph in second gear while the WRX has just gone into third.
3,4 and especially 5th are that much longer in the P1 compared to early WRX and the theoretical top speed at 8,000 rpm, subject to tyre size is in the order of 170 mph. I do not have the exact figures in front of me but it is something like a theoretical top speed 30 mph up on the early WRX.

so the P1 box is a good upgrade over my standard one then?

i thought the P1 box was like a short ratio RA box with just a longer 5th so it would of been quicker off the start.

The P1/STi 5/6 box is stronger than any O/E 752 box but it will not improve 1/4 mile times. They may be slightly slower but the advantage is less frantic high speed cruising.

so fitting the P1 Box is good for safety as its stronger but it may slow my 1/4 times down

Then again with the xtra safety of the stronger box i could up the power
