best clutch ,gearbox,fly wheel for 400 bhp ?
hello all i have a uk turbo thats getting a closed deck block and a td05 20G and as its a std uk box i know it wont cope with the power , im looking at running between 380-400 bhp so what would be best , its not my every day drive so it will come out at weekends and up and down one or two drag strips when its all done ????
M8 three options:
6 speed plus diffs as well
PPG with another 400 options
Early Mitsubishi EVO (for the same price as either of the above)
I looked at this a little while ago and as you have a power upgrade makes complete sense but the cost attached is not an insignificant one. I spoke with David at API about other options and there really aren't any. It does depend on how you drive of course but the torque will kill your box eventually (the internal will end up like the thing out of the aphex twin video with no teeth) and then you'll have to do one of the above. As you don't drive it everyday you may get away with it for longer.

PPG or 6 speed are both good options for long term. PPG is a fair bit more £££s though.

ppg in mine too and absolutely love the noise i went for the straight cut synchromesh. then just put an uprated exedy clutch and flywheel from David at API. all working very well, though it is a pricey option
What year is your car and do you know the transmission code?
An STi5 or 6 box will handle the power from an o5-06 20 G no problem.
The six speed is a lot heavier so has downsides and a PPG for a 400 bhp car is plain overkill and expenditure of that level is just not warranted.

The 98 car probably has a TY752 box but if it is a changeover model it will have a TY754. The TY754 will handle the power from the 05-06-20G but that turbo can break the TY752 box..................in time.
The six speed is stronger with more bracing on the casing and thicker cogs but you have a weight penalty and why have five gearshifts to get you to where four will do?
It is really down to your personal preference and budget.
If you do not have a TY754 box in your car already, then a UK TY754 VN box is a possibility and a straight swap. If you go for an STi 5 or 6 box, TY754VBAAA then you also need the rear diff. The UK car has a front 3.9, a drop gear of 1.1:1 and a rear diff of 3.545. The STi 5 and 6 have 4.44 diffs front and rear and drop gear is 1.0 to1.
