STI v4 intercooler
A V4 or 3 TMIC will fit on a V2 car but it requires a bit of work.
Jonny Gav who is Vice chairman of Tyne Tees Scoobies has fitted a ver 6 STi to a ver 2 WRX and I am sure he will give you a first hand account if you contact him through TTS.
Personally I would be thinking about a Hybrid GT FMIC which is far better in terms of performance and ease of fit.

Fairly straight forward to fit, I've just done mine.
Trim 5mm off the cooler outlet to T/B and off the T/B itself. This gives a bit more clearance.
I also chopped of the corner of the cooler and had it welded back up with an adjusted outlet for the dump valve take off (£15)
If you use a later flanged cooler this would not be reqd.
Then is a case of just fabricating a couple of brackets.
I also made a tailored undertray to suit the new cooler as the std one now doesnt fit.
I'll post pictures a little later as im on my way out.

Stu : Your photos would be interesting to a lot of people I am sure but what you have done sounds like a lot of work and not everyone will have access to the facilities you have needed. Hence the suggestion that a FMIC will be easier to fit and achieve better results.
BTW I have an STi 4 TMIC for sale, cheap.

At this time i wanted a more factory look, mine is used for trackdays and has been built on the cheap to some extent. All in its cost £100ish and thats out sourcing the ali welding and buying the cooler, all in all it fits my needs ATM.
Given time i intend to design my own, with the shortest runs possible as per the WRC cars. But I'm in no doubt it means a custom water radiator, reversed inlet and no air-con etc etc amongst other things so ill monitor temps and see how it goes.
For info i actually never saw above 45C on track with the std small slanty type, dont know if other have bothered to measure temps themselves or not?
A few pics of my V4 cooler installation,

I should have said, some nice and impressive work there. Unfortunately not everyone has your skills and facilities. I know I struggle to get alloy welding done when I need it.
