I was under the impression my standard disks were warped, so upgraded to a K sport 330 mm 8 pot kit, the problem was there still. First of all I thought that the new disks were warped, contacted Bren @ Apex who was very helpful and even offered to supply new rotors.

But.... the problem has since then become intermittent, and goes for a while, then a high speed light brake can bring the problem back even at lowish speed.

What other item could be causing this, I once heard that wheel bearings could cause vibration under braking. Or maybe a worn shock.

Any ideas guys?

 

Have you had a good check of the tyres mate, I had a similar problem and it was a tyre.

 

The wheels have been swopped since, and the problem remains

I can't offer an answer, but since my new grooved discs were fitted just days ago I have a similar intermittent problem, so I'll be keeping an eye out here. I know I've got a rear suspension problem developing (knocking on n/s and o/s sort of hops under very low speeds). I was going to see if if was still there after it was sorted. If not replace the discs in case it was them - they are under warranty.

Cookie, did you clean the face where the disks sit against the hub?? I had this years ago on a MkII Astra GTE, I didnt clean the back plates properly when changing my disks, took them off, wire brushed them down and also cleaned the back of the disks, then used copper grease on the touching surfaces (obviously not the pads..........that could be entertaining!!), problem totally went after that, caused by a small piece of grit forcing the disk to sit very slightly wonky.

Had the same problem on my GodSpeed 335mm Brembo Kit. Turned out that one piston in each caliper was sticking. Got that sorted out with Ian but had to have my new discs skimmed as they had warped slightly.

Seemed to be OK for a while and like you getting the same problem again, when driving high and braking lightly. Sometimes the same at lower speeds too.

If you have new brake kit then that shouldnt happen but have you checked the pistons in the calipers are coming out fully?

I too was told about making sure the surfaces on the hub were clean and the discs were sitting properly. Perhaps wheel brearing?

Spoke to API today, and David reckons the probable cause is a wheel bearing, not definate but a good chance.

The kit was fitted by Mocoms and IMO done properly, I do remember him cleaning the surfaces with something before fitting, because it stank

wheel bearing and possibly the hub is out of true. What you MUST do is check the runout of the disc, disc bell, and the hub, then you will see what's what. I would also replace the wheel bearings at the front to be sure, they are often responsible for a multitude of niggling problems before they go badly enough to start creaking or rumbling.

 

The run out of the disks were checked upon installation, as they were rotated five times to find the position with the least run out.

I may just have the wheel bearings changed as a first step, it cant do any harm to have new ones there.

 

had the same problem before also replace wheel bearing. check your rack n pinion also sometimes.

 

Any update on this as I have a similar problem. Failry new set of disks on but only get the problem when braking from high speed.
