Question Gearbox/Clutch Question

The wifes Swift.

Clutch out - rumble from gearbox area.

Clutch in - silence.

This would indicate a worn Input Shaft Bearing, but .....

Clutch lever/operating arm released right off - quiet again .... could this mean that the release bearing is turning and rumbling, even when released - and when it is allowed to be removed further it stops turning?

Slightly confused ..... obviously I'm hoping it's the release bearing as that is much simpler ... and ideas?

Thanks
