Default Electrical Newbie Type Question - AFR Sensor

I am fitting a second hand AFR gauge tomorrow...

After a bit of reseach think ive figured it out that i need to tap into the wire on pin no 5 on my ECU (1998 Terzo)

So my newbie question is; by tapping into the wire is it ok to cut and strip either side of the ECU wire and join my sensor wire on via the use of a chocolate box type connector? Sorry if this seems a stupid question its just that i don't want to get it wrong when messing around with the ECU.

i have a a/f ratio gauge in my newage. havent got it working. do i take my fed from the ecu or the lamda sensor? i have a sensor in the headers someones tries running it too but they said it must be a dodgy sensor but on the remap it was working. also i have no lamda in the downpipe/exhaust (as im now decat there is a wire that sits not connected)
someone please give me something to work off as i hate it when things dont work.
cheers

if its a narrow band sensor then you wont get accurate readings from the meter
you need a wideband sensor for an AFR gauge

...you can take the input from either ECU end or the Lambda end

I just temporarily put a wide band into the old lambda position (underneath of d/s headers)...though I believe they SHOULD go downstream of the turbo to minimise heat transfer/damage
its connected to a hand held AFR meter at the mo
(my meter has a narrowband output to send to the ecu)

do a search for sensors on the net: theres plenty of places selling them

cheers mate, so i get a wideband and place it in the headers slot and wire it straight to the gauge?

well thats basically what I did and it worked a treat
...just a reminder though: the manual for the meter suggests placing the sensor DOWNSTEAM of the turbo to minimise heat

Thumbs up

Fit the gauge, it will give you a fair idea of the afr. If you are that conserned then get it checked by a pro! What you got to loose?
