Can't see the vid, but I'm pretty sure the sound you're referring to is turbo stall, often mis-named wastegate chatter.
Generally you get it by removing the dump valve and blanking off the hole. It's harder on the turbo than a DV set up though, some will tolerate it, some won't!
You'll need to go for an induction kit to really hear it though IIRC, as the std airbox masks the induction noises to a large extent. The problem with this is that, for cars under a certain power level (i.e. the level where an FMIC becomes advisible, which necessitates a induction kit) they're really not optimal and you're better off with the std airbox.
How much do you want the sound?
If you have a VTA dump valve installed and don't like the whoosh, simply revert back to the std recirculating DV which is very quiet!
Need more info on your car and any mods, really!

Hard to discern the noise from that vid, sounded a bit like a tame VTA DV to me.
Is this the sound your after? Its what turbo stall sounds like

yes that is the exact sound i am looking for, you hear it alot from skylines,
sorry about the video but its the only one i could find on youtube of that sound. i dont know this person.
Whats a VTA dumpvalve and also if i do blank off the dv will it destroy the turbo, i think its the standard turbo unit.
thanks David

If you have a bigger turbo upgrade and it has been mapped according to it should be fine. but for example if you have a UK spec with the standard TD04 & it has not been mapped, then in my opinion it would cause damage gradually and reduce the life of the turbo.

I've completely blanked off a TD04 running average boost and in my humble opinion it does give that evil noise u are referring to
. I was unsure at first as well but a few other opinions convinced me. Besides, my new TD05 was £50 plus postage so im not too worried if it shortens the life span marginally. I've heard the blades in these are fairly robust anyway so pass the blanking plugs my good man

TD04s are tough little buggers, as are 05s. Would most likely be ok, check with a reputable tuner though.
You seriously think that blocking a dump valve is gonna get you a date??omg
Back on a more adult topic.......the TD** series turbo's are more robust than the IHI VF** turbo's.

Mapping it will not do anything in the way of preventing damage or reducing it.
i have a 1994 sti import.
listen to this vid of top gear its a p2, scooby based prodrive production car, if you listen you can hear the sound i am looking for, i am sure they have not blanked anything off, so how do they get this sound from the car. watch the vid and at 2 min you will see what i am talking about
NOT the chh chh chh chh sound

There is a common myth in the automotive world about so called "wastegate chatter" or "turbo flutter", a noise created on lifting off the throttle in a turbocharged car. The sound is commonly described as a chipmunk or a rattlesnake and is often stated incorrectly as being a result of the turbo's wastegate closing.
The noise is in fact the air compressed by the turbo passing back through the compressor wheel of the turbo after the airflow is abruptly halted by the throttle body closing, called compressor surge. However, in some cases, i.e. where the throttle body doesn't open fast enough or is set up to only react to high boost, some chatter will remain. Surge can occur on diesels when the turbo is attempting to pressurize the air at a higher pressure ratio than the compressor wheel can flow at a given speed. Diesels have no use for a Blow off Valve as they do not have a throttle plate.

sorry to jump in thread but ive just removed my hks ssqv and put my standard one back on. not getting any noise what so ever, like the chatter noise and would like that noise now.
my question is what do you mean when you say blanking up? blanking what part up.
was thinking of getting a forge recirc but wasnt sure. cheers for any help

We've covered this before and its always quite controversial, i got my info from old bob, who was advised by Zen that TD's are up to the challenge if u are looking for chipmunk chatter. From completely blanking, one of my concerns was that this pressure would be going elsewhere and perhaps be detrimental elsewhere under the hood. As far as im aware its not, and so far so good. It depends on circumstances i guess, if i had newage or anything post 05 say, i would leave it with the standard recirculating valve.

remove the valve, then just blank off the pipe from the intercooler and the one on the air filter intake pipe! oh and the lil vacuum pipe to, like i say though only with a td turbo

Yes they will be handing you phone numbers of the nearest mechanic because they think your car is broken.

Sorry but I dont see the logic? You have a remap -----> runs hugher boost ------> more back pressure on the compressor blades.
Mapping it will not do anything in the way of preventing damage or reducing it.
