old topic I know but MY98 I think has piston slap. Has anyone got a link to a wav / mp3 file with the noise recorded so I can compare?

Sounds like a diesel when cold but fine when warm...matches all the descriptions just want to be sure!

Although the advice is that its not damaging - try telling that to a prospective buyer.
Luckily I was able to dump my Forester on the HP company.
