Default Impreza WRX STi MY97 what's wrong?!

Can anybody tell me if the standard engine on a Impreza WRX STi MY97(old interior, new engine) has forged pistons and conrods? And what about the bearings? And about the cilinderheads, how did they upgrade them to make them go to 8000rpm?

Inner shim buckets on the Sti Cylinder Heads allow the engine to rev higher(amongst other things).

I just got in the engine which came out of the STi V3 MY97(4 doors). What do you guys think of this situation:

The engine has the IHI turbo fitted(VF23).
The car has the STi-clocks(interior).
The car has the STi-strutbar.
The car has the STi-intercooler.
The car has aluminium "carry-arms" (sorry, translated from Dutch).

What I think should be on a STi-engine(and correct me if I'm wrong), but isn't on this one:

It doesn't have a red intake manifold
It doesn't have another color injectors(they are grey like the 380ccs)
And the worst: It's doesn't have inner shim buckets!

Does ALL STi's have inner shim buckets? Does ALL STi's have red intake manifolds?

Please help me out guys..

hi mate, normally the manifold should be red in a v3 sti, does have the inner shim buckets and yellow injectors (440cc).
so check to be sure that a true v3 sti engine .
turbo is the right one, as mine has also vf23.

Pics won't do any good, it has the normal (no)color intakemanifold, grey injectors, and outerbucket shims, so I guess it's no STi-engine, really to bad..

Strange things is that they went quitte far in making the car an STI:

VF23(looks really stock, as if it's the first turbo)
STi aluminium "carry-arms"
STi clocks(7800rpm)
STi interior
STi taillights
STi strutbar
STi intercooler

The pistons are forged the rods are the standard items.

If you're going for anything over 350bhp I'd advise changing rods atleast if not the pistons too.

The rods are the same across all years. In the classic they are notoriously weak.
For instance a MY99 STI 5 has the exact same rods as a MY99 UK Turbo 2000.

If the original OP is looking at running anything over 350bhp then I would certainly advise aftermarket pistons and rods.
