Default Mod’s for 380/350

Car is a 95WRX, standard engine internals, engine has done 72k miles. Doesn’t knock, tick, smoke, or leak (so far…).

Planning on these mod’s within the next year to take it to circa 380/350…

Engine:

  • Remove aircon and all other unnecessary parts
  • Buy an Sti V3 manifold and fit it in the rotated position
  • Fit a Lateral Performance FMIC & alloy radiator
  • Port and heat wrap exhaust manifold
  • Full Hayward and Scott or similar decat full system
  • Larger injectors, 550CC?
  • Slowboy-racing.co.uk fuel kit 2 (Parallel kit, fuel pressure regulator, high flow filter, braided lines and fittings)
  • Turbo TD05-18G
  • CDF lightened pulley’s full set
  • SIMTEK ECU w/ALS & Launch control

Transmission:
  • STi V5 TY754 gearbox. If I break this I’ll then go PPG in the ‘754 housing.
  • Already have fitted Exedy uprated clutch from Api and one of their lightened flywheels.

Handling/brakes:
  • Already has full coilover’s all round with adjustable dampers and front adjustable camber. Will fit camber bolts to rear.
  • Whiteline parts havn’t decided on which yet
  • K-Sport 8 pot front 6 pot rear 330mm discs braided lines etc
  • Car will be on 18” prodrive p1-wrc’s on the road and will look about some 17’s for track use

Interior:

  • Full strip
  • Cage & cage padding (Havn’t decided on which yet)
  • Paint inside etc
  • Flock dash and doorcards
  • Sparco buckets and 6 point harness’s
  • Oil temp, Oil pressure, Boost, Air/fuel ratio, water temp, exhaust temp gauges
Am aiming for a fast response/low spool/lag setup, for weekends and trackdays. Car will not be a daily driver. Anything obvious I’ve left out or other suggestions?

Browsed that site before, as they do Simtek ECU's. Does he post on here?

Forgot to mention spark plugs and induction, think the Simtek can go MAF'less?

very similar spec to mine; have a look here;

22B Bulletin Board: bolt on stage II mods...

it should help.

As far as running that level of power I've had no issues on standard internals so far but accept it is pushing the envelope. I'm running a rebuilt P1 box so essentially the same as an sti5 with a taller 5th, again no issues so far. You will definatley need 550's with the 18g.

hth.

What's the Lateral FMIC like?

Reason I was going for the Pace was it's outlet location

i.e good for reversed inlet manifold

But if it's a load of crap...

Does the Lateral have the same position outlet's?

The lateral intercooler is the best one on the market.. imho.. need to make your one pipework but it is so short that a kit of pipes would be pointless.

Making my own pipework is no problem...

how much £ for the lateral? And is it a IC & alloy Radiator combo?

After a chat with my mapper I've decided to go for 350/340, running the TD05 16G and a 10% meth mix and the supporting mod's above.

Where can I get the 16G converted to front entry and the exhaust side ported?

proberly best to start saving for a engine rebuild, my 2004 wrx was running 360bhp for approx 7k but that was with less then 27k on the engine and running approx 270bhp half of that....(eboost2, able to change boost level).... mine is having a rebuild as we speak, due to piston number 4 melting! and yes it was set up correctly by alan jefferys

Hmmm im puzzled. you have a phase 3 fuel injection system. If you have melted a piston that would suggest that you car was running lean for what ever reason...... If it was set up correct as im sure it was, why did it melt a piston??......was there some other issue that caused this.

well to be fair i bought the car with the mods done, i did have the car checked out by the garage that done the work, and all was same as when they first carried out the job,for the piston to melt it shows something wasnt quite right, (had the car less then 3months too)..... until the car is back on the road i cant really say for sure if there was any other reason other then running lean, maybe due to mapping........ a few people have said this is the reason but who knows, could be just running to much power for the engine to handle, ill let you make your mind up on what you think it is, lol

If the mapping was correct then this would not have caused your issue. A good mapper will set the car to run within its limits and if you have standard ECU then even with remap all of subaru's factory safety limits would have been still in place, although narrowed! i.e knock sensing , timing retard, fuel duty increase etc etc

"Running to much power for your engine" in my humble experience generally manifests itself as rod, big end or small end problems providing fueling is correct and not melting pistons....

Maybe idea to get your set up checked when you get your rebuild done.

cheers

Colin

i kinda know the problem but cant be bothered with all the hassle etc, manged to get most of the cost recovered by warrenty, as the car was bought from a garage luckly, so in this case the easy thing to say is...... engine being rebuilt, by another garage, forged pistons, conrods etc and all the other bits, decided upon a bigger turbo and MR bob rwel, how ever you spell it lol, will be mapping her CORRECTLY,
