I am about to become a pround owner of a slightly used scoobysport back box.

Can anyone tell me: What size are the bolts required for the front end flange and will I need a replacement gasket on that joint?

Where is a good source of such items?

Thanks in advance for any info or extra advice you think would be good.

I took mine to my local exhaust centre and they charged me £15 quid to fit it.
Just had it removed to put on my new scooby when it arrives.

 

That's one solution. Did they do a good job? I've had stuff done by quick fit types in the past that was really bad!

 

Luckily for me the youngster loved scoobies and took half an hour to do it, very good job.
All they have to do is remove two bolts and unhook old one, then reverse the operation with a bit of gunk and a new shim.

 

Ok, so the shim is a standard size that they had in stock?

 

Do it yourself, it is VERY easy!

I stuck a center and BB on my car lastnight, in the damp and the dark....

Took me and a mate an hour to do, and that inclused sheering off one of the bolts!

shearing off bolts is what worries me. They sure look rusty.

So, how did you get it out? And, is there a shim, did you reuse the origional or replace it?

I sheared it when I was putting the new HKS on! Didnt cause me any problems as it went loose straight away - just poked it out and replaced it.

Getting them off is not that much hassel, soak em in WD40 first to get all the sh1te off of them.

It is a very easy job, just need a 17m socket and a 17m spanner.

Shim = Gasket I think.

These are failry easy to come by in 2.5in guise, 3in gets a little tricky!

It's a round soft metal washer which acts as a gasket - very important as it must be a prefect seal

The ScoobySport BB is a 2.5in bore, what center section are you running?

If it is standard, you will need a 2.5in gasket. Again, if it is a scoobysport center or magnex you will be able to use a 2.5in gasket.

If it is a 3in center section (BPM or something), you may have trouble sealing the joint, I did.

In that case, a nice 2.5 in gasket will do the job.

Call ScoobySport, I am sure they will pop you one in the post or you could try your local exhaust fitters, they may be able to help.

Can you use the existing Shim/Gasket or do you have to replace it everytime you remove the backbox.

Is this the case with the joint between centre section and downpipe also?

Personaly, I would replace them everytime, just to make sure you have a nice seal. If you can't get gaskets, go for firegum paste, not a neat and tidy though.

I fitted a Magnex backbox last weekend onto my MY00. All I did was remove the old back box, the existing gasket was stuck to the centre section, so I simply put a load of Exhaust sealant paste on the gasket and onto the Magnex and fitted them together. Luckily I had 2 nice new bolts and joined it all back together.

Transfer the rubber mounts to the new back box prior to fitting, use a bit of washing up liquid rubbed around the inside of he rubber mounts and they go onto the box easily.

Mine seems fine and dandy, with no leaks etc.
