have a look at the HKS Racing Suction kit. Apparently it has a flap or something that diverts the air to minimise damage to the MAF, it's something like that anyway. I remember reading about it on TDi's website somewhere a while ago.

Induction kits are nice, I've got the racing suction on my 22 - but that has the old hot wire maf so isn't a great test for you.
I've got the GGR kit on my bugeye, no problems so far, it's a K&N cone on a GGR custom pipe, not as 'cool' a noise as the HKS though.
To be honest though performance wise u'd be as well off if you just changed the standard paper filter every 4k miles. From what I've read it's only the crap blocking it that reduces it's efficiency. The advantage of the ITG panel filter is that it seems to retain it's efficiency much longer than the stock item.

go for the aps cold air induction, it is neat and takes the filter out of the hot engine bay. The wing amplifies the induction roar too. Most importantly it uses a K and N filter which have never given a maf failure on here and are known for their consistently good filtration abilities.

Plus the HKS racing suxtion is way overpriced!

Another vote here for the APS induction kit. I have one on my car for over a year and a half now and I have had no problems.

Don't know if it helps, but my MAF sensor went and I was using an APS induction kit.

Over a year with the RamPod Induction kit with no issues. (MY99 UK car with standard ecu)

Under 6 months with the APS kit and the MAF sensor went. (MY99 UK car with Link ecu)

Chris, had a GGR induction kit with K & N filter on mine, did 20K miles with it and no problems - changed back to ITG panel filter because of the noise the GGR item made.

Oh dear!!! One casualty with the APS kit. Hopefully it wasn't due to the induction kit cos MAFs can also go with the standard settup too.

I appreciate that Wrexy, but as I say I ran a RamPod induction for over a year with *NO* MAFF issues at all!! As has Mike!

If the MAF does go with the RamPod, it's because the filter was not maintained correctly!

 

I've got a Blitz Filter (no induction pipe yet). I've heard ppl say they've go crap filtration lvl's but I also heard they dont because they dont need to be cleaned with oil based cleaners which would degrade the MAF sensor?
/me is very confused..

p.s. how much is a MAF sensor if it goes?

 

Scott had a MAF failiure a couple of hundered miles after fitting the HKS pod.....and I know Craig H has done many thousands of miles with the APS, both on hot film type MAF's (I think).

Didn't the the GT-R board have a disscussion about how the HKS ones are not very good, filtration wise? Or was it a Skyline mag??? I wish I could remember....

I was tempted by the APS kit but someone said something about because it is in the wing that it would get dirty quickly and cause problems! Have you had any problems like that? Also how easy is it to remove and clean when needed!
Any other info on the APS kit would also be helpful.

run your fingers along the inside of the wing and see how much dirt isnt there.

They are blocked off at teh bottom by a plastic shield. I cant imagine it being dirtier than the engine bay!

Andy, it is entirely possible that the damage was done to your maf during the 1 years use prior to the six months of aps cold air induction. These things do fail on their own too. Not just as a result of suspect filtration. They are fragile and consistent vibration can cause their failure.

I think most of it is paranoia, and I would still go for the aps on the hrounds that it reduces inlet charge temps (measured) at low speed at least. At high speed aparently the under bonnet turbulence is sufficient for it not to matter.

 

Cheers for the replies folks....Sorry Chuckster I should've added that I'm currently running an ITG panel filter but would like to gain a touch more if poss, a bit better breathing etc....last year using the HKS green mushroom type kit I blew 2 MAF sensors so I'm very , very wary....the GGR sounds OK and so does the Rampod, mind you so does the APS that's been mentioned...decisions...decisions eh...I wonder if I could pay for supply and fit of one of these kits and with a guarantee of non MAF sensor failure ?

I'd still go for the APS too. I'm not saying that in Andy's case it wasn't the APS that caused the MAF failure, as I said above, hopefully it wasn't due to the APS, but I should point out that 2 of my friends, one with a MY99 and one with a MY00 had MAF failure and they had the stock standard induction kit on their cars.

Cleaning is easy. There are instructions on how to clean the filter with the kit and removal is easy. You take the clips off that hold the mudguard, which protects the filter and allows nothing to go through, then remove the mudguard and then remove only the filter, not the whole induction kit.

Thanks for your replies. I've just noticed on NewAgeMotorsports website that they only fit MY97 onwards and STI3 onwards, I have a MY95 WRX so doesn't look like I'll be able to fit one anyway!
