Thought the MY00 didn't suffer with this?? Did the dealer say if this is a common thing on MY00s?

Hope it is under waranty (i.e not an import)

Don't worry M8, the car will be perfect after the work and you will never know it had been done. Except for the fact that you will have a brand new engine in your 1-2 year old car

Does anyone know the minimum amount of work to be done on a warrantied car (MY98) with piston slap? New piston? New engine? New car ?

Interesting. My dealer (Anthony Betts, Milton Keynes) swears blind this doesn't affect Phase II engines (MY99-00) like mine, and yet it sounds exactly like it to me. Reckon I might force the issue next time... Mind you, it's done it since about 10k miles (34k now) and is no worse. Only when cold, too. Who knows...

Who diagnosed it as piston slap?

Cheers
Richard

Can anybody tell me if this is just a case of replacing 1 piston and which 1 is the most common, there seems to be many mixed opinions on fixing this problem. My MY97 has a bit of slap and if i decide to do it will be doing the work myself.

From what i understand there isn't alot of danger as most tuned engines have a bit in order to give clearance but maybe i'm wrong someone please tell us!

Don't mean to steal this post.

Daz.

This is what it's supposed to sound like. This recording has been provided by AJ Leslie, who is a bbs member.

We all thought that piston slap had been cured for the phase 2 engines, but maybe now that the MY99/00 are getting older and getting a few miles on the clock, the true signs are starting to show.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Question

What happens if you run a car with piston slap?

will it eventually self-distruct?

not sure if mine has it or not MY96.

I shall have a listen in a minute when I leave work.

I've been told it's ok to drive it till I get it sorted, but it's not done that many miles WREXY - 23k, and it started at about 21.....
