Default Time to launch that crappy old VCR..

Got one of these today, mint bit of kit. The freeview tuner on it is excellent, far better than any I have used before, really good menu system. 'Dave' for instance was always a bit patchy..not any more

Agreed, been using one for 18 months and it's great.

Good choice.

but dvd is the only medium. HD is very easy to erase. I assume you can transfer from the humax via USB?

I've been looking for one of these but I need...
1. DVD Recorder
2. USB socket
3. Freeview HDD recorder

Is there any maker that does all that in a combined unit?

quite steep though, we got a really nice twin tuner 80GB (more than enough IMO) for £100. Tried 2 cheaper ones though and had to send both back.

Hoping to get one of THESE in the sales, although I don't think the price will drop much more

I read reviews for the models around the 100 quid mark, and they didn't seem that good. What swung it was what everyone had to say about the humax OS, doddle to use and quick through the pages, which it is.

The missus seems distinctly unimpressed though, there's only so much ray mears, top gear, and massive machines she can take.

Humax are great, they update the software over the air, or you can use the usb port to ugrade after you've downloaded it from the net.

To answer the earlier question; yes, you can download the contents of the hard drive to your PC. You have to convert the files though. I've never bothered, but the PVR forums are of great help.

Enjoy.

Hutton d...getting on very well with it. Armed with a copy of the radio times I have scheduled god knows how many films and progs over xmas....piece of p1ss...look through the EPG, find what you want, and press OK on the remote!

gpsst14..cheers, I'll have a lookie. Will come in handy, the old cheese has tasked me with recording "have an affair with a celebrity newsreader or spandex clad ponce, whilst harbouring under the pretence of doing a bit of dancing" while she's on holiday.

Also have a Topfield here, bought last December - life without a PVR now would be murder, they really are essential kit for ALL!!

mart360 - its easy enough to archive stuff from them to PC and burn to DVD if you are really bothered about doing that - can't say I've needed to do it yet.

The HDD size depends on what you do with them - ours is 160gb and we currently only have 20gb left and with Xmas upon us we will be needing more space soon so I will have to delete some of the films I've recorded and will never watch anyway - wish I'd gone for 250gb now

Topfields are great, and customisable
