Isn't it true that with fuel cut you don't inject fuel at all, you don't have an explosion at all ? As you have nothing to burn ? So there is just air compressed in the chamber. That should not be that dangerous, i suppose ? Or will there be some 'left over' fuel from before the cutoff ?

I always thought that when you inject too small amounts of fuel, there will be so much air that the 'burning of fuel' will be much hotter. And also there is no cooling effect.

So am I right stating that fuel-cut off is completely different to running lean ?
