I sending my scooby (2003 WRX) to the garage to install a new clutch kit, will they have to unmount the gearbox or it's a more or less easy thing to fit?
How many labor hours should that take in average (it's not an offical Subaru dealer, so they don't really have much experience on scoobys).

i think what he means is take the gearbox out, as in drop the box not a bad job to do.

 

Bit more than that.
They will need to remove the prop shaft to remove (drop) the box away from the back of the engine sufficiently to clear the old clutch and fit the new one.

There is a lot more involved that they may think at first.

Removing/doing the clutch and replacing the lot will be about 4 hours if they know what they are doing and things go well. It is very normal for the box to be very corroded onto the back of the engine, and that can take a very long time to free the two.

I should have been clearer. I just call removing the box, dropping it.

 

To drop the box to the floor means dissconnecting the 2 front drive shafts and sometimes you need to dissconnect the one front hub to wishbone bottom ball joint to allow the shaft to pull off the side of the box. On my Sti V3 I HAVE to do this on both sides to get the shafts off, other cars the shafts will compress enough to get them off.
Like I say, there is a bit more to doing the job than the 'first-time' guys think.

I've done it about 6 times now on my racer.
