Default Power gain from removing the AC unit

Anyone removed the AC unit from a new age and know what the power increase is? Its bound to reduce power being part of the engine "cranking" cycle but wonder how much?

Always thought the A/C was disabled when on boost...... so not much power lost.

Rigga..spot on the newage OEM ECU switches off the aircon LOL

I thought that swiss had ditched the OEM ECU to sort out his "wild cams"

Hi guys,

Shaun, nope, still running oe ecu but now heading for blow through setup with Bob R doing his magic early next year - I hope this will resolve my fluffy cams issue.

I knew the ac switches off on high boost but still must produce some drag as the pump is still going round from crack...is that were the 4 hp comes in?

The A/C has got a clutch on it which is disengaged when it's off. So if the A/C is off, the only drag you get is from rotating the pulley, which I would think is negligible.

Ah, is it a magnetic clutch or something like it? That's why you 'ear the click when she's switched on? Well, only down side is weight of the kit then - wont be removing that as never have the ac on when giving her beens from the off anyway.
Cheers all.

The gain will come from the weight saving but it is a chew of a job to remove properly.

Did mine the other month (engine side).
Not too difficult but it is a knuckle scraper, and a few pipes were bent but it was scapped anyway, retro-fitting one of these would be a mare i think. I managed to get air-con rad out by just unclipping main radiator and squeezing it past. The dash part should be coming out shortly, all in the name of weight saving

i did mine too. id recomend juast removing the belt see what you think.

ALL the ac gear weighs about 15kg max! not much of a saving but every little helps and it does add up.

Since its a clutch system and doesn't always "slow" the engine, think I'll leave it for now. 15 kg isn't much..

Oh, one idea, the new age has a bar under the back seat which doesn't look like it holds much together "frame" wise - does anyone know if that bar could be taken out without handling issues?

Isn't this bar to stiffen the chassis? If its the one I'm thinking about.

Yeh it is but does the bolted item make much difference? I'd expect it to perform less well than welded body parts.
