Default Water vs coolant

I heard the other day that it isnt necessary or even wise to put water in your engine anymore, just coolant. Is this the case??

25-50% is what concentration the coolant should be, not 100% for sure.

Think you're looking at "4life" here, that stuff is a special coolant mix that goes straight in the engine, no water added, same performance and lasts 10 years. I bought 2x 5 ltrs the other day for £24 - saves buying distilled water to mix with normal coolant/anti freeze.

40% coolant to 60% water.
Consider the fact that coolant is corrosive and having neat in your engine will just eat your head gasket.

Surely All water is corrosive and coolant added to water prevent corrosion occur to whatever your engine material made off.

I use neat coolant in mine and did in the previous few cars without any problems. Used to do it years ago when i was racing oval circuit cars.Could never get enough cooling when following other cars closely and water just boiled away to easily. It has a higher boiling point than water hence we never lost so much from boiling when we were really giving them some beans

Water as far as im aware is neutral ph so not corrosive.... chemical reaction with iron blocks causes corrosion to occure, not a good idea to run just water alone in alloy blocke either, antifreeze is a corrosion inhibitor ....... 50-50 mix is fine

Would running "just water" cause the coolant to boil up and prssurise the system, in view of the fact the coolant helps the car from overheating
?

There seems to be some confusion as to what coolant is compared to just water..... generally its a mix of water to ethelyne clycol antifreeze in a mix from 25%-50% depending on how cold the car is subjected to in winter conditions, antifreeze is needed to prevent the water from freezing (obviously) and causing severe damage to the engine as it expands (core plugs are designed to pop out to prevent this but not reliable) and to prevent corrosion building up.... race cars/bikes generally are prevented from using antifreeze when on tracks as any spillage can be hazardous to following competitors due to its slippy nature,so water alone will work in the cooling system, but for general road use A/F is a must,so if you have cooling issues with your car its the system itself not the cooling medium thats at fault.... check general items for leaks, thermostat for correct operation and if its pressurizing check the head gaskets.....

The coolant itself is corrosive, hence on the bottle it says "corrosive" and has a little symbol
