Electrical issue, possibly earth issue?
All,
Completed my first track day yest and had a few intermittent issues -
Firstly when checking the gearbox oil the metal top of the dipstick sparked off my FMIIC metal pipework. Had a look about and everything was good so didn't think anything of it -
Went out on track and after 1 / 2 laps (sprint event) my car started getting funny and then cut out approaching a corner and the alarm started going off. Reset immobiliser and re-started and finished lap (slowly)... realised on stopping that the whole power must have went out cos the clock / trip counter had reset. Had a look under bonnet and the FMIC pipework was touching battery terminal, taped it all up so there was no connection and for the next 3 laps car was running perfect.
Went for lunch then first run in afternoon same fault had re-appeared, double checked my previous duck tape repair and it was still there so decided to call it a day on track... drove home (30-40 miles) and the car is running 100% perfect, boosting fine etc etc although obviously i'm not pushing as hard as i was on track.
Its in for its MOT / to get checked on Thurs but was wondering if anyone has any tips, my thoughts were that an earth is the issue ? The gearbox was out recently so i'm thinking maybe when it was re-connected something isn't right?!?
Any advice appreciated,
Cheers,
Chris
