Depends on which flywheel you are using....

I thought the twin plate comes with its own flywheel anyway so how would that make a difference?

It does, but I can't remember if the 6sp/5sp starter/flywheel combinations swap over..

Good point about the starter motor - does a 5sp starter motor fit with a 6sp flywheel?

I seem to recall reading on here (quick search = can't find it) that the 6 and 5 speed flywheels are the same size but has different locating bits (technical term there ) for the 5 and 6 speed clutch. So the flywheels are the same size just different.

looking at the exedy website it seems there is only one Exedy hyper metal twin plate clutch for the GDB impreza (part no: FM022SD) so it would seem this is the case.

Can anyone confirm this?

When I had my classic shape car with 6 speed gearbox it used the 5speed clutch and flywheel, but since my newage car is meant to be 6 speed. I have been told that there is a 6 speed version and the 5 speed requires a little work to fit !!

Well I have just been looking at Nengun and they stock the Exedy hyper metal twin plate and their code for the GDB is FM022SBL. So there has to be a difference somewhere ??

The 5 Speed & 6 Speed exedy twins will fit in a 6 speed, you just can't put a 6 speed clutch in a 5 speed. (Unless you modify the bellhousing like I have done)

Steve BT you must be looking at the wrong part, the Exedy hyper metal twin on Nengun is FM022SD for the GDB

If this is the case then is there any benefit to having the 6 speed twin, or any 6 speed clutch, over its 5 speed counter part ?
