This may sound like a question that doesn't really need discussion, but I'm in a bit of a quandry, and would appreciate some input from forum members.
I've got the opportunity to have a P1 as my company car. The company will pay for the insurance, the fuel (both business and private) and the maintenance.
Only problem is, I would have to contribute about 120 quid a month to get the car. This, combined with the max. tax bracket for the P1 once the company car tax goes emissions based is putting some doubts into my head.
Whatever happens, it's either going to be the P1, or a fully kitted out Prodrive Turbo (which I could have for only £20 a month contribution).
As I've not managed to get a long test in the P1, I'm looking for some opinions from current P1 owners. Is it worth the extra dough, when compared to the Prodrive Turbo?
Thanks,
Andy.

We want to swop our two MY00's for two P1's - only one problem - finding the extra £20,000 or so - otherwise, no contest!!
PS - any dealer out there want to do the above deal cheap??

I think I'm gonna go for it, regardless of the cost.
I just know that I'll regret it if I don't.
I'm just gonna have to live with the 400 quid a month tax bill when it all goes emissions based in 2002.
Before anyone else says it, I do know how much of a lucky barsteward I am. It's one of the reasons I stay with my current company.

Bagpuss,
just been faced with the same problem (if you can call it a problem)
went for the P1 even though ppp was the sensible option.
what car do you have at present?
i have a uk99 turbo so ppp was just a step up but the P1 was a whole new experience.

Bagpuss,
Had two M3's previously and had my P1 for 4 months and wont go back to a german car until I can afford a 911 GT2 or GT3, but I may buy another E30 M3 as a second car as they're cheap and loads of fun.
You know you want to do it.

Hi Arron,
Don't know your exact tax situation, but if you are a 40% tax payer and not self employed, you should be paying one of the following amounts currently:
0-2499 business miles: £367.44
2500-18000 business miles: £262.46
18000+ business miles: £157.48
This assumes a tax liability based only on the list price of the P1, which is £31495.
For me, I currently sit in the 2500-18000 bracket, but also have to include a tax liability of about £60 a month for the fuel.
Once it all goes emissions based, then the P1 sits in the 35% tax bracket, due to it's pretty bad CO2 figure of 265 g/km.
This means that the monthly tax rises to: £367.44, or about £430 for me, due to the fuel being provided by the company.
It's a pretty big tax hit, but I've planned for it, so it shouldn't be a problem.
