How quickly will an 05 ecu advance after a reset and given that the later ecu's use very active/aggressive knock control, do they always advance to the point of knock, then back off..?

Surely, if the ecu is running the engine on the 'edge' (which is what I believe the later ones do) it is therefore, at times, going to encounter some knock..?

Is this a fair assumption..?

depending on how you drive and the fuel in tank and the cars setup anything from 30seconds to a few hours..

it does advance towards knock yes but the set up is pretty clever and monitors engine noise.. the ignition advance stops at a level of noise which is before knock that will do damage.. obviously the better the fuel the more advance the ecu will run and the less time will be spent advancing timing into the noiser area.

Have you had to fill with 95ron and hence the concern?

exvaux: on newage, yes around 20-30 mins should reset ecu.

Just for info...

disconnecting the battery for a while erases the "learning" part of the ECU, it does not remove CEL codes so cannot be used to get rid of a CEL light on the dash.
