where to go for 2.5 bottom end?
I've got a classic 1995 wrx jap import, really wanna do the 2.5 bottom end.
Is it really that hard to do yourself or is it advised to get a pro to do it?
Where can i get hold off one? What sort off money am i looking at? Any help please.
Cheers steve.

I was quoted £4k for a rebuild on a standard bottom end with loads of strenghtening goodies. I image it would be a few more pounds than that.
There are many places you can get hold of one. One option is from the U.S Cheaper but you run the risk if anything goes wrong getting it back to the U.S . Where in the country are you? if in the south you could have a word with simon aka (jolly green monster) i'm picking one up on monday from him with all other bits to do the job or zen performance should be able to help also . If you have some mechanical experience you could possibly pull it off but i would advise getting a technican to do it.
Why does the bottom end need a rebuild if it's a brand spanking 2.5 short block (block, pistons, rods, crank etc)?

if he wants more power or boost a standard usdm ej257 short motor will only take so much so needs parts ripped out and replaced with stronger parts, crank, bearings, rods and pistons etc
If you buy a second hand engine from a breakers, might as well strip it to see whats what while you're there rebuild it if need be.
Plus most people who want to fit a 2.5 engine, want to run big power, so better internals are going to be fitted as a matter of course. Otherwise you'll only end up craining it back out again to rebuild it. once you've blown it up.
make sense
You can get standard ej257(semi closed deck sti blocks) over here for £1500, In America the Basic EJ257 is $2000 and can be shipped for around $300, then you may have Vat & duty (iirc 2.7%)
There are so many options out there just depends on the budget.
