Default idle rpm tooo high

my normal idle rpm is at 1500. when i start the car from cold it stays at 2000 rpm until warm, i think this is very high and should be around 900 rpm maybe?

i'v tried turning the idle solenoid to adjust but doesnt make much difference, and if i leave the solenoid at minimum the car stalls regularly when driving.

does anyone know what the problem could be and if it can be sorted by any means?

cheers guys.

Mine is 900rpm 93wrx
Do you mean the idle control valve, if so a good clean may sort the problem (may not though)

Yes turning the top of the idle control valve adjusts the idle speed and you are right in thinking yours is too high. If everything's working it should be able to handle a solid 800rpm idle without a struggle. Hence, yours isn't working properly.

YOu can try and 'clean' it out by blasting it through with carb cleaner, this sometimes works and lots of SNetters report that it does. But my experience is that it does nothing, unsurprisingly seeing as the bit that gets 'cleaned' is only one part out of three that control the idle speed in the actual valve. If you can find a replacement from a scrappies try that first.
