is it ok to fit a second hand clutch?
You might be wasting your money on a 2nd hand clutch if the clutch cover diaphragm fingers are worn or weak, same as the center plate damper springs and clutch lining thickness, condition, contamination.
IMHO - You pays your money - you takes your chance

if you are doing the job yourself you may aswell go for a new clutch as for the flywheel i got a used flywheel and had the works done to it the difference was worth it, it needed a new flywheel any how as the other one was cracked to hell
Personally unless you have a fairly highly modded car I wouldnt waste your money
The only reason I knew I had a lightened flywheel on my 450 bhp+ car was that I noticed the car was more likley to stall in traffic
Save your money - dont bother
Only decent upgrade I ever really noticed was a bigger Turbo, embellishment like lightened flyhweels was a mugs game

I find a lightweight flywheel works well.
Ok to buy a secondhand one....just make sure you get it properly skimmed first or you may get judder.
Dont bother with a 2nd hand clutch unless it is almost new

Our lightweight flywheels are one of our most popular products, we sell one with virtually every engine rebuild and hard bitten racers like 911 on here, acknowledge the gain they make.
It is most certainly not a mugs game fitting one. Providing you don't go too light on a road car. Anywhere between 6.5 Kg's and 7.0 Kg's is fine. The alloy type ones are too light for road use
One a separate matter, fitting a flywheel with a damaged surface where the clutch friction disc runs will make a warranty claim against clutch judder almost impossible to make. The supplier of the clutch will ask about the flywheel condition as soon as you mention judder and will almost certainly laugh at you, if then you just say ' the flywheel looked alright '

I concurr:
The API wheel David mentions really make the car nice to drive, the gear changes are far mor precise as you can match the engine speed so easily to a fast change.
It IS better on the road, is smooth and judder free. Hill starts are unchanged.
Never fit a second hand clutch in my book, just too much work to re-do it.
Graham.

I run a 4.2kg flywheel on the road and wouldn't go any heavier. Can make medium paced take offs a little tricky but no problem with quicker launches or slow ones.
I know a few people that have fitted skimmed down/lightened OE flywheels and have not noticed the difference.
Fit a proper light flywheel if you want to notice the difference.
