Header tank insulating spacers? And where's SEARCH gone?
Anyone know where else I can get a pair of header tank insulating spacers apart from Carl Davey, who seems to be out of action, or at least not replying to emails lately?
I would have done a search but it seems that basic forum function has disappeared now unless I pay £5, assuming I have understood it correctly? If that's the case I predict a lot more newbie threads about the same topics over and over again if you have to pay to use search... still at least no-one will ever be able to moan at newbie's because they didn't do a search beforehand LOL

I made my own, and have measured the benefit (before the manifold was 20C hotter by the exp tank than on the opposite side, after it was exactly the same), make sure you insulate between tank and manifold and between tank and under bolt head, as about 1/3 the heat goes through the bolt, don't by the silly ones with the highly conductive brass inserts and nylon (which itself isn't much of an insulator), I used Tuffnol for mine, 3mm - 4 washers and I was sorted.

As above, there is no point if you are just going to bolt straight through.
You can either do it top hat style so that there is no soak through the bolt, or make it completely seperate like i have done.

Mark, where did you get the bits for your setup, I take it you fabricated them yourself..? Finally, does it not matter that the 'side' bolt/nut no longer lines up with your setup..?

You can get it from any engineering suppliers. RS components sell it in strips just the right size. The stuff i have used is not tuffnol, it's similiar but a higher heat resistant spec.
Yes i made mine myself, i'm lucky enough to have easy access to materials and bolts etc. I have not found the need for the side bolt, If i did i would have just made a little bracket.
P1 Mark has a very neat solution there and clearly worth copying. As well as insulating the header tank from the manifold, I then insulated the socket cap screws I used from the header tank itself to prevent further heat transfer.
Not trying to steal the tread but I`m after some too. Can anyone help us out, it`ll save me going round local engineering places and not really knowing what I`m talking about. I`m looking for the finished product. Or if anyone wants to make `em up for me I`d be happy to pay.

He is however away on 2 weeks holiday at the moment.

P1 Mark - are you still using the original MAF sensor ? If so then I don't recommend mounting them to the engine as the additional vibration will surely cause an early death for the maf and possibly engine

OK I'm going to hang on for Carl to get back then. Thanks for all the input on this thread, seems to have got some interest going in these again! Maybe Carl can do us a group buy once he's back? All his other bits and pieces have been good quality items so far.

Yes, i am still on O.E ECU. The filter is wedged solidly against the wing though. It has been like this for 2 years now without any problems on the same MAF - You have just reminded me i really should change it.
I had far more problems with the MAF sensor with O.E airbox and filter than what i have ever had with induction kit as pictured.
