I heard on the radio the strike is down to pay and conditions

I actually feel the same way aout the company I work for, if I went on strike it would be classed as gross misconduct and I would be fired on the spot

Im not having a go at anyone here by this, but can someone explain to me why there is a strike ?

If you dont like the pay and conditions then to me dont take the job, or at least dont moan about it and strike, find another job, i'm looking for one


My Mum works for the post office but I havent had chance to catch up with her on the latest goings on as her post office is probably on the closure list

On a serious note as i said in my first post we only want a decent wage, I bring home less than £250 a week, we have been offered 2.5% pay rise with many many strings attached, one of them a loss of 40,000 job loses, Yes i would love a job change I've been a postie for 20 years and I just feel we are being treated like ****e, I DO NOT take industrail action easy to handle but this time we have to make a stand, feel free to ask me any questions.

That was my experience of postmen/women when I lived in London.

That, and the post getting delivered at 7pm - or simply stolen, as it was for a while.

My postie here is great though. Must be a London thing for crap service.

 

Please do, because if why should I lose money, for someone who is prepared to cross a picket line and pick up all the rewards at the end for taking no action.

They don't get £22K a year, my brother has worked for the post office for 18 years and earns under £20K a year

 

This is not a personal attack against Scoob99 so please do not perceive it as one. A friend of mine once worked in the postal system for a few weeks and was flabbergasted at the workshyness, misconduct and general attitude of the personnel working there. In his opinion they'd all be screwed if they had to work in the private sector.

What makes me laugh about all of this is that they have announced all over the media that Postal Workers are striking today, so have begged and pleaded and asked us not to post any mail today

PMSL at that, so you all go on strike, then expect us to go easy on you all?

I think everyone should have posted twice as much stuff today

This isnt a go at any individual at all, but if i decide to take a day off work, again I would be sacked if I told all our customers not to bring machines in, etc etc, so that I can have a few easy days to catch up when I return from my absense

Or am I totally missing the point?


My postman used to be rubbish, not sure if he got the boot and its a new one, but now it is better, although completley inconsistent delivery times etc

So what Crozier gets 22,000 a week, my MD gets a damn site more than me, owns a million pound house lots of cars etc etc etc, but it isnt grounds for wanting better pay, I have to earn that

I'm a University/College lecturer and (apart from the usual niggles) there is really only one thing I don't like about my job and that's the constant moaning and groaning I hear from colleagues about how cr*p it all is. Most of them earn at least 35K, all of them get 13 weeks holiday a year and a more relaxed working environment you couldn't wish for! And as for all this b*ll*cks about lots of late nights and weekends spent doing preparation and marking, well that's nothing more than poor time management as far as I'm concerned!

If you don't like it get off your **** and find another job.....simple!

eh? are you paying emergency tax or what? from my last wage slip (im on similar wages) my topline for week 11 was £425.20, and i took home £322.57. so i got taxed 66.36, ni was 35.77 and .50p for health shield.

something in the above is not right. on a different note, my postie is great. knows i work nights so always knocks a couple of times, and if i dont hear, knocks on his way back round on his travels.

 

350 top line is around 270 take home.

 

i've worked for the company for 17 years now and i love the job, I dont find the wages too bad.

The real issue for strike is the job losses and the way the company is being changed for the future,we are striking for the general public as well as for ourselves

I read the above comments with amusment as most people have seen the service and quality we provide plummet in recent years,it will get a lot worse in the near future if Crozier and Co get there way.

How many other people with 100% monopoly can still turn over a loss as we did a few years ago, FFS it aint rocket science we have been doing it for 350 years and now we have competition(which I applaud)they are panicing and making knee jerk changes that affect everyone not just the common postman.

And yes I was on the picket line at 4am this morning getting very wet and cold.

Remember a postman is for life not just for Christmas!!

I'm a lecturer not a teacher mate, two very different things. I work in further and higher education (basically 16+). Personally I wouldn't be a teacher in secondary education in this country no matter what the salary was. I've been unfortunate to experience teaching in a secondary school first hand and I can honestly say that those that do it on a full-time basis have my utmost respect!

 

never had a problem with any of the posties round my way. always try pass the time of day with then if im up. just didnt see how you were getting taxed 30odd% of your wages
