whats the better diff in the 6 speed and whats the difference in them?

Well, what's a good daily driver front LSD - not plated!

 

I like the way helical front feels, which is what I have in my V9 Spec C.... also interesting observation on the track while cornering - the diff pushes the front of the car inside while helps with understeer (but this is only true when you are really pushing the car)
suretrack is a little slow when it comes to grip search on loose roads (snow/gravel) as it looks for traction and wiggles the car for a split second, and you can't correct it with a steering wheel - because if you do, once it goes you will go in the direction you corrected it

 

I went from 350bhp on std WRX diffs to suretrak R180 and suretrak 6 speed with 483/498 bhp/ftlb and boy the diffs are fun...Its great kicking the back end out on throttle and I've never had her snake down the road much - unlike the std rear diff at 350 mark (almost hit a guy off his push bike once, and that was in the dry!)

I get snaking on hard run at full boost ( about 400 bhp > 350 lbft?? ) and would like to tighten things up in the diff department - PU bushes and whiteline stuff in the suspension already!

Would an uprated viscous centre ( 20 kg vs std 4 kg ? diff ) be of use for front to rear transfer?

I don't really hare around and get much wheelspin, bit is easy to do when needed, just not maybe by booting in 3rd, it sticks!


Anyway, broke 3rd gear on Sunday on gentle cruise so should decide what to do to go with PPG gearset!!

Neil, what box did you brake third on? Was it a 5 speed?

Mine at 350 mark with 5 speed and a high speed run (racing a volvo with chip tuning.co.uk on the back - he just didn't want to give up as he thought his car would be quicker than a scoob...WRONG!) mine was starting to vibrate etc...didn't feel sweet at all and took a little while to "cool" down...

6 speed much stronger though except for the synchros.

 

Yes, 5 speeder ( TY752 casing ) on early classic.

6 speeder is stronger, but fitting, the weight(!), the ratios ... not sure I like that lot of isues ..and the cost initially.

Don't want to have to do this very often, so looks like a helical / syncro PPG gearset, into ( if I can get one ) a later / phase 2 'box ( TY754 ?? ) with Quaife ATB front LSD ( Yipeee ) and if needed steel billet selectors, syncro etc.
Clutch and flywhel may need replacing if worn ... so billet 6kg steel flywheel and AP Organic clutch probaly will go in.
If the donor box is a 4.44@1 then will need a rear diff too!

Yeah, more expensive than a 6 speeder and install
