Default box under dash???????

Hi, a while ago i bought a 94 wrx and after a few months i had problems with the engine not turning off as if the turbo timer was stuck on. i removed the lower dash pannel under the steering colum and the wiring was a mess so i went about removing all the old stereo wirring so that i could get a better picture of what was going on under there. i noticed a gold coloured electrical box under there which had a multi plug plugged into it and there was also a few other multi plugs laying around that will fit into the unused connections on this box.
Because this was a first for me i asumed this was the ecu and it baffled me how it ran with it dissconected.
I later found the real ecu under the passenger footwell but what is the gold box i found?
Any help would be much apreciated. thanks.
p.s the not turning off problem sorted itself after tidying the wirring (bad connection maybe)

hi thanks, is it a standard alarm? mine has no alarm but judging by the amount of unused imobilizer plugs it had a clifford fitted at some point. this gold box had no alarm makes printed on it though.
ive removed it from the car now as it didnt seem to do anything but a few people have told me it could be a performance enhancer in some way?
