Hope someone can help....

I am getting a clunk sound when changing gear (sounds like a loose/worn diff or driveshaft) - it is fine whilst in gear and powering or slowing down - it only happens on some (not all) gear changes on the upshift when the revs drop.

To explain and to help some others test if theirs do it - drive in say 4th at 1500 revs then take your foot off the gas, wait 1 second, then hit the gas (a loud clunk is heard from the transmission i think), power off, then hit gas and again clunk - can do this in most gears but it is mainly heard at low revs and hitting the gas.

Any ideas ?

Car spec - Impreza STI 2003 UK Spec WRX, 35,000 miles, PPP installed (from new) - no modifications and full servicing.

The noise is gradually getting more often, like i say it is not on all gear changes but it is getting a bit more regualr. Heavy driving it is not noticeable.

Hope someone can help or even test theirs with the gas on/off test at low revs ...????

I think to be honest mate it sounds like its a fairly common thing. Usually it will be the rear diff taking up the slack and from what i have read its nothing to worry about.

i tried to get mine to do it today and was unable to.
i would say yours could have a problem might be worth getting it checked out
