Default Economy difference between gearboxes

"Economy difference between gearboxes"

May be an unusual question to ask but I am rebuilding a lightweight mid-engined sports to use a 93-94 JDM td05 WRX motor. I will be using a 4wd 5 speed manual box from a Subaru, converted to 2wd.

Haven't got the box yet, but I was interested in what sort of difference in economy you would expect to see in an Impreza at motorway speeds (70 ) between say a UK spec box and say a RA/sti box with the shorter ratios.

The reason I am interested is the fuel tank in my car is pretty small.

When I had the original RA box in my WRX it was revving its nutz off at motorway speeds, awesome acceleration though ;p
I'm currently using a STi sedan gearbox and with 215-35-18 tyres it's doing approx 2700 rpm at 100Kph Vs 3500 rpm from memory with the RA box.
Also found that the RA box had such short ratios that often I needed to change up a gear mid corner....
