anybody here tell me what the MY96 box in a STI-RA is rated for in ft/lb and BHP, also could it take a PPG kit with UK 5th gear if needed? spoke to someone who said as it was phase 1 it couldent be done
A guess: 380 lbft of torque with good oil and good condition parts and good treatment.
PPG I'm sure will fit and also the taller 5th; ask David at Welcome to the API website

You weren't told the Phase 1 box wasn't strong enough.....you were told the Phase 2 box was stronger than a Phase 1 as it flexes less, etc
Glad to see that your getting the correct base car for your project. Good luck!

No.
If that were the case then everyone would know the trick.
The difference I feel is not massive between the boxes. I hav e stock V3 in the garage from the car and looking at my Type R (TY 754) the main case looks much the same. Things are just a bit better as the cars were developed over time.
A friend hillclimbs his 420 bhp/380 lbft RA on a stock TY 752 with hillclimb slicks (really sticky) and all is well.
