Sounds familiar!

The dccd will run in open without the controller and will be a bit tail happy on lift-off in a bend etc, but not too scarey.
I rigged-up a 'start' button once for hard starts on a hillclimb.

The wires can be arranged to simulate the switched 'locked' position on the knurled wheel (do you have one though?).

I placed a momentary switch on the left spoke of an aftermarket wheel and a curly cable from that to the control wheel by the handbrake that I installed.

tbh I never had the nerve to use it AND I did not feel I needed it as the starts were hard enough in dccd setting.

You are really missing out by not having a controller, but one from Product would be the right way to go as it will do everything you need.

Fitting the stock dccd controller is a pain in the ***!

Neil,

Long time no see....
Arron and i have just done the very same thing to our 93RA rally car...
Although we have fitted the gems controller from steve simpson.
As Graham has already said, the diff will run in the open position with no power connected, but 12v will lock it. Im not sure if its a good idea just to put 12v straight to it though...The input to it should be current limited in some way.

FWIW:
I wish I had stuck to my gut feelings and bought a Neetronics unit instead of the Subaru parts, time wise much cheaper and less frustrating option.

I know someone with 2 controllers and he has just installed the Neetronics to good effect (a hillclimber).
Graham.

Neal,
Take the car for a thrash to get the feel of it, if you run the diff open, I've just done the same in my rally car and to say the first stage was a voyage of discovery was an understatement. Rubbish stage times but great fun, till number 3 rod decided to make a bid for freedom 6 corners from the end of the rally. API to the rescue new engine should be on it's way soon.

One question for you all if anyone knows I'm fitting a dif controller from rallispec that a family member brought over last week on the wiring diagram i states that I should have a black and dark green wire from the box, I seem to have 2 black wires, does it matter which way I connect them up to the wiring loom or is there any way to chech which way round they go?

Thanks
Huw

There should be indeed a black and green wire!
My Type R box was so (V6) so look closer as Dark = black almost..

22B Bulletin Board: Urgent question DCCD wiring

Try this diagram.
I used it and all worked well.
