Default 2007 sti steering rack bush's

I sometimes get a rattle coming up through the steering rack/coloum when cornering over uneven roads,so i took the car into my dealer, who fitted a new rack, but problem still persists,so the dealer spoke to technical at subaru uk who said its common place on the hawkeye sti,as subaru have removed the steering rack bush's to give better feel through the wheel????????

the mechanic down at the dealership then took out a demo car(200 miles) and it gave the same noise/rattle,so is mine a real issue,or is this part and parcel of the model.

is this a fact ?

does anyone else suffer this issue ?????

cheers mark

I get this on my Spec D. The rattle feels like it is coming from the top of the column at the steering wheel. If this is the spinner part of the airbag loom knocking around then I can see it falling to bits in several years time.

Default Wheel rattle

I've got this too on a MY07 Spec C. I've read somewhere that Subaru reduced the no. of universal joints in the column from 3 down to 2 and that's why is rattles! Doesn't feel good, does it!

Does anyone know if the Whiteline steering rack bushes cure this?

Thanks,

Ian

I have this on a blob, I thought it was the steering cowling, took it off and put sound proofing and felt tape under it, still does it.

Doing a bit more investigating, seems subaru changed steering rack bushes on 05-07 sti and this appears to be the cause. Whiteline bushes are meant to correct it so ive ordered a set

if you google whiteline ksr202 - these are normally thought of impreza steering rack bushes, but 05-07 use ksr206 which is completely different kit

ive ordered a set so will report back on my findings!!

Yeah the "old" ones were a set of two, square and round - the widetrack onwards uses a big round and four little rounds.

They're easy enough to fit, come with a nice little tool for popping out the awkward ones.

Yes they changed the bush Much more of a **** to change and you need to go careful and mark the positions from which you remove and reassemble

I didn't need to disconnect my steering rack UJ when I did it, so no marking needed. Just undid the clamp which let me slide it out half way - that was enough clearance to do the job.
