Default removing resonator/snorkel on classic

hi, looking at removing the above this weekend, is it a worthwhile mod? i have bought the blanking plug from subaru for the inner wing to stop hot air being drawn in from the engine bay once i remove the snorkel, should i put a cold air feed from the vent under the front indicator up to the airbox or will it get enough cold air without one? cheers. my car is a 99 classic turbo.

I would definatly get a cold air feed to the air box. It will not only be cooler air but cleaner as you will be sucking in brake dust and but fron the inner wing.
I have done the same thing.
Here's a couple of pic at what I did (ran two pipes side by side up to the air box).....hope this helps
Mike

All i would say is the more cold air you get on the engine and its parts the better.

It won't hurt to blank it off but tbh a pipe bringing 'cold air' up from the bumper brake ducts is only going to work if both ends are sealed i.e. sealed onto the airbox and sealed around the brake duct. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking it'll be OK if the 'cold air' hose is roughly in the right place, and it's not, it's just totally pointless. Either get a big hose that can seal tight onto the brake duct in the bumper and feed directly to the airbox, or don't bother at all.

I'd also put money on the air channeled up via a pipe from the bottom of the bumper being a lot 'dirtier' than that just drawn out of the wing. In fact I know it is because I've done the exact same mod before. It's not a big problem even when it's raining, but it isn't a clean air pickup by any stretch of the imagination.

so how about if i just remove the resonator and put the snorkel back on, would this give me a bit more "induction noise" and more air?

How do you know?

I did it on mine and ran a pipe up through the wheel arch (not through the wheel arch liner) with no detrimental effects.

Just need to be careful going through puddles

Now I have no pipe and the inner wing sealed.

I removed silencer and didn't run any pipes works fine and sounds good. Bob Rawle was happy with it thats good enough for me. Also put the sensor from the original air passage into wing.

yeah thats what andy f told me to do, just remove resonator, blank hole and plenty cold air gets into wing from front grill, so bob rawle and andy f recommend this mod, good enough for me.

I wasn't being adrasive at all, people can read into posts what they want, but you can't tell the tone of voice.

Sorry if I've come across abrasive that wasn't my intention.

Some people see other peoples posts of "use the search function" as abrasive and a detriment to SN (that isn't me having a go at anyone just trying to highlight that how something is read isn't always how it was said/intended)

Forgot to say the "how do you know" question was a serious question not a sarcastic one as I was only asking you to expand on your point

no worries, maybe it's me suffering from car induced stress and being a little over sensitive

been up to my eyeballs this week and not being a mechanic its been a learning experience...helped by the search function
