Default Advice on personal registration

Following a RTA, my scoob will no doubtedly be written off.

I have a personal registration on the car which I want to keep for my next car, my questions are:

a) If the car is written off with the reg mark still on it then that mark is then never usable again?

b) If (a) is true then can I get the reg mark put on retention now so I can keep it?

I'm pretty sure you can put it on retention, it would be very mean if they didn't allow you to keep it. get down to your nearest licensing office and ask them asap. I do know that if your car is stolen then you are not allowed to use your number for a year but it is still yours.

this happened to me.

you need to apply to retain the plate which will cost £105, including the £80 transfer fee when you reassign it and £25 for a years retention.

You must do this soon, as when you car is written off, the insurance company will want the V5 and MOT, and the dvla will want these too when they revert the car normally back to its original plate.
