Default sti V2 gearbox, selector problem, maybe.

i have just finnished putting my sti V2 gearbox back together after wasting 3rd, i havent put it back on the car but just tryed to select all the gears, i think i can only get reverse and two other gears, i have checked the selector gators and they were still all in a line, i also checked they could move in and out by pushing them one by one and they are ok, its just when i put the center diff casing back on and put the single bolt in the selector arm, i push the selector bar and only get them few gears, is there something i am failling to do or am i just weak and cant select the other gears, cheers phil.

First time i did my gearbox i craped my self after putting it back together and not being able to select any gears. Ended up being it was just that there wasnt any oil round the box yet. See if you can select a gear and move the car a little to get the oil round it a bit.

if i remove the center diff casing and push the selectors in one by one, they all move easily enough, its just when i put the center diff casing back on and connect the selector rod that moves between all three selectors.
under the top inspection plate there is a big silver pressure spring thingy and its like it wont let all the gears be selected, what am i doing wrong?

when I rebuilt my box I was worried as i could only select (by hand) 1, 2, 3, and 4 but then realised using a little bar on selector for leverage i then had 5th and reverse, the reverse/fith selector spring is quite stiff and very hard to move without leverage.

If your sure the fork is in correct position in selectors, then not sure what else could be wrong.

maybe try and figure out if your getting reverse etc. select a gear and turn input shaft by hand.

hope this helps

i have just took the center diff housing off again, checked that all the selectors go in and out individually, and they did, i then checked the springy silver thingy, that was ok, so i put it all back together again and checked it, it was the same as before, but i realised that when using a bar through the hole in the selector rod it only has to move a little bit to select 1st to 3rd and hard over a little more for 5th, so it was right the first time it went back together, it was just me being a div, but theres nothing like making sure for your own piece of mind, thanks for all the help and advise given anyway, phil.
