Could be from anywhere Oil runs and finds its way to some of the most unlikely of places. It has even been known to "run uphill" during some vigorous cornering and heavy breaking adding yet further confusion to where the actual oil leak emanates.

Hi mate. Having for worked for Subaru for many years I see this defect nearly everyday. Sounds like your engine oil pump leaking. Quite involved job to do which involves removing cooling fans, ancillary belts and your cam belt.

What about oil on the back of the engine underneath the inlet manifold?
I have a slow leak im sure it's not burning it as it's too messy underneath the car!
