hmm problem!!! Help

Default hmm problem!!! Help

I had my old gearbox and diff taken off.... as it was nearly dead and had a leak between gearbox and engine... which was 100% gear oil... Which i was not brothered because i had a new box and diff to put on

So the weekend i put the new box on and diff... everythink was fine.... Until today i went over to my car i saw oil on floor i was like not again.... It was gear oil again which it looked like it coming from the same place...

What cause them to leak between box and engine(100% Gear oil)

Dont really fancy getting the box out again. Not in the mood lol

anyone got any ideas..

There are only two places to leak at that end of the box (by the engine)
1
Input shaft seal
2
A crack in the gearbox casing

I cannot imagine that both boxes have the SAME faults.

Are you sure you know where it is leaking from?
You seem sure that the leak is gearbox oil..sure it is smelly hypoid oil??

Sure the leak is not from the speedo drive or even the drain plug?

Oil can drip from anywhere and will gravitate to the lowest point before dripping, and this is the bottom of the box by the engine.
Clean oil is hard to trace.

Sure its not somthing like the clutch master cylinder leaking fluid??

Hate to sound sick but 100% its gearbox oil as a taste it..

Looks Like Its coming around the bellhouse bolts inbetween gearbox and engine..

So cheese off with it...

Only Borrowed my mates ramps and put it on like 5 days ago.... It wierd because my old box had the same leak which looks like coming from the same place...... replaced the other box because of leak and crunching.....

this new box is great apart from the gear oil leak....


Anyone?? with any infor

Where did the first one leak from?
You could try calling David on Welcome to the API website and ask for a hint or two.
Not sure, but i think you have to split the box to change the input shaft seal!

That is the most likely culprit.
The boxes breath/overflow via the neck of the dip stick and the stick's top cap.

Have over filled it?

I am think its the input shalf.....

What kind of job is it to replace the seal... I can get the box out with my brother but not sure about replaceing the seal...

Hard job or not to bad...

whats involved???

You have to take the box to bits as the front imput shaft seal is inside the main case. Not a job for the faint hearted or gearbox learners.

if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, and are handy with a spanner then do it yourself...... easy job......well once the box is out again.

I've never taken a gearbox apart until a couple of months back when I rebuilt my box (syncro and seals etc.) I couldn't believe how easy it was!

The seal you need will just slip on/off the input shaft easy enough once box is split.........just remember to get some silicone gasket sealent to put the casings back together.

or send it to me and I'll do it for £50

save your bucks and have a go!

it well annoying just a bloody seal lol...

Can you sort of talk me how to do it...

I be able to get the off in the next month because girl having a baby in the next week. So wanna spent time at home... the box is great apart from seal which is leaking...

What can make them seals go....

so what process isit to replace the input shalf seal
Step by step... and how much u recon the seal will be from subura maybe???
