Default Advice

Hi.

Im really just trying to build up a bit of knowledge about scoobies before i consider buying one, as i dont think its a car i can just not put any thought into and just buy whatever one i see first.
So Basically, i wil be moving jobs after the summer now which will enable me to buy a decent motor and be able to insure and run it without to much worry.
Now, I have always liked scoobies, but there are loads of different varients, P1, WRX STI, 300, Ra, Spec c etc, and im not really sure which is the best one to look at, i know that the P1, and the spec c are the top of the range, with them been quicker and more powerful than other scoobies.
Ive just had a quick quote on a P1 and it came back as £1600, which isnt to bad for a 21 year old (well i wil be 21 by the time i buy the car), but im not rreally sure what the average cost for buying this is, ive looked on auto trader and they are around 8--9l, but there are 2 on here areound the 11-13k barrier, so i dont really know what is the average proice for a good example.

Budget will probably be around £8000, and I will be using this as my second car, so basically very limited milage, say around 4000 a year. Id like to get one of the quickest scoobies as petrol wont be much of an issue as i wont be driving it very often.
Could any of you guys give me some advice as what to look for when buying a scoob, and could you reccomend me what sort of model would suit my criteria?

Thanks for any help.

Its a bit of sense thats required here. The majority of the roads are 30 to 40 mph limit so whats the point of trying to get the fastest scooby you can get, believe me they are all very quick cars and i would suggest you get a good clean standard example first then work up to the licence loosing specials....8k should get you a WRX 52 plate but maybe a little bit more cash will get an 03 model(better car) ..do a few cheap mods and it will be dogs...

Echo powerman really, start off with a standard car, you`ll be suprised the thrill it will give you, then when you feel like more power, remap/fuel pump. turbo back exhaust should see you ok for a while...only my opinon of course..

Yeh, you have got a good point there actually, and i think it would be more sense to work up to the bigger and quicker scoob's. Probably a wise idea that i get used to the car first, as i dont want to be like a work friend of mine who bought a brand new Spec C and wrote it off within 4 hours:O

Don't forget, if you buy a bog standard WRX and then decide to mod it, your insurance will go up (most probably).

Thought I'd mention it as you talked about ins in your 1st post.

I think a good P1 for around 8k would be tricky.
8k would get you a Bug eye WRX which isn't everyones cup of tea.
If i were you and bearing in mind your age, i would aim for an 03 Blob WRX but you will probably need to chip in a few more pounds.
Alternatively you could find yourself a mint classic.
Nik.
