Has anyone done this?

I have an MY99 UK Impreza Turbo and want to retro-fit air conditioning to it. It seems that I have (will have) all the parts shortly. I'm just wondering if the wiring is already in the car's loom?

The a/c symbol and slot for the switch has a blanking plate over it which means there is space for the swtich. does anyone know for sure whether the wiring would already be built into the loom, even though a/c is not fitted to the car?

The wiring is all in place IIRC.
Drop Silver Sonic a PM and he will be able to advise. He helped me do mine. Just make sure you get all the parts from the same car and the same MY as yours

 

Hi mate, Strangley enough I had a thought to do this to my UK MY98 today. How much does it cost roughly and is it an easy job to do yourself?

 

It's easy enough if you have some guidance and you are half decent with a spanner. IIRC, i got all the parts required from API for around £200, maybe a touch more. Like i said in my other post, it's quite important to get the a/c kit from the same MY as your own as there are quite a few variations.

Oh yeah, if you have a uk - you need a kit from a uk car, and if you have JDM, you need JDM

as brun says jdm will not fit uk.
uk is mechanical control air con sti is electronic climate control.
wiring loom is already there!
they even fit the fuses some times , but no relays!
evaporator is different on jap ,compressor generally is too along with tensioner pulley arrangement but most other parts are ok .
i have most bits req for a uk
and a few sti
fiited a couple of these before and have the scars to prove it!!
