Default Turbo upgrade

Hi guys,

Just a quick question..... to upgrade from a TD04 to a TD05 turbo....do I need to do anything other than change the ECU???

Cheers

Andy

Andy,

What model year Scooby do you have?

No need for a new ECU if 99 onwards, just a remap.

You may need (or benefit from) other supporting mods yes. At the very least, you're putting more air in, so your fuel system e.g. pump/injectors may beed uprating.

Hi guys,

Sorry about the late reply.
Mine is a MY93 Classic Import.

I already have the Z4 ECU so just wondering about the turbo now.

What is the general opinion of this upgrade?? Do you think it is worth doing?? Just wondering how much extra lag I will have as I know the TD05 cuts in later than the TD04.

Cheers

Andy

This is confusing the hell outta me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was originally told I have a TD04.....my mate has an STi 555 and that has a TD05 but his turbo runs higher boost and kicks in a lot later than mine!! Therefore I thought I had a TD04. Some people have said I have a TD04 and some have said I have a TD05!!!
So my car, a MY93 Classic Import WRX should have a TD05....yeah?!?!
Sorry mate....just been runnin round in circles about this!!!!!!!!
Cheers for your help

I've always been informed a standard turbo on jap imports of this age is a TD05.Have a look on the turbo for an identification plate.

The only STI V2 (555) that had the TD05 was the 'Wagon. It wasnt really an 'STI' in as much as it had the standard Saloon engine complete with Z4 and TD05. It ran standard boost and was rated at 260PS, which was up 40PS from the standard 'Wagon, but only the same as the then-current WRX Saloon.

With regards to your car: the Z4 ECU will plug straight in and it should make the car a lot nicer to drive as its fuel/ignition/boost maps are much improved. With regards to the turbo thats fitted to your car: if its an early A-Series (MY93) then it may not have a Mitsubishi TD05 turbo fitted. The only way to be sure is to look.
