Induction kit, air box and FMIC???
Hello to you all. I have a 96 pre-facelift impreza and I'm looking to take it up to 300bhp, a nice strong reliable power output I feel.
At the moment it has a turbo back exhaust and thats it, I was looking to put on an induction kit, but I was blaffled by the choice.
Do I go oil filled with a K&N or dry with HKS and then theres the Apexi I've been hearing so much about.
However, in doing some research I'm now thinking should I bother at all as I heard so much about MAFF problems caused by oil from the K&N filter making it clogg and in the same turn the HKS not filtering enough and letting loads of dust through.
Should I stick with the airbox and just put a panel filter in? Thing is a really like the induction roar, and I don't care what anyone says a panel filter does not sound anywhere near the same.
Another point I'm thinking about, is I want to fit a FMIC. And I've been told there is no way I can keep the standard airbox and fit a FMIC. Is this right?
Can anyone help me, and back their opinons up?

I could be wrong but i think the 96 MAF sensor is OK to use with cone filters, it was the later models which had problems.
If you do go for a FMIC you WILL need to remove the standard airbox thus meaning you will need a cone filter.
Kind regards
Dave

Cheers for that, I did think an induction kit was my only option if I went for a FMIC.
Any opinon on what induction kit to go for? HKS green or yellow, K&N or Apexi?

Went for the apexi myself also. Have a word with andy from ESL, he has a postal map designed for 440cc injectors, induction, decat and FMIC. Supposedly good for anywhere between 320 and 340bhp with enough boost (and *****
). Injectors are a real breeze to install providing you get phase 1/1.5 440's.

A later top mount intercooler would do for the power you require and be cheaper! Ive got my98 on my95, got it for £25 of ebay! If i was gunna fit a fmic i would be looking at a pfc and going to the next level, with bigger injectors and more boost! But thats guna cost £1100ish! But once youve got the pfc the worlds your oyster! up to you! I fitted the esl, apexi, decat, ported headers and 98 tmic for me its fine 300hp ish! 1.2bar! only cost £400!
