hks and blitz are pretty poor. Speak to Roger Clarke Motorsport and they'll keep you right.

Keep the standard air box and buy a decent panel filter

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

this is worth a look

tbh imo you would be best with the uprated panel filter as stated by hamyam.
when i got my scoob it had an Apexi ik which i think is better than hks/blitz

Why change what Subaru made ,the sti ra is a lovely car as it is do you really think you can make it better by putting inferior bits on it

Subaru stuck a top mounted intercooler on there which isn't the best idea they have ever had! Small effective changes all add up to a nice performance increase.

I have an Apexi filter on mine which works well.

From what I've read the STi TMIC copes perfectly well up to ~360bhp, as does the standard airbox setup with an uprated panel filter. Im sure FMICs and Induction kits have their place, but that place is far beyond where most of the ppl with 'normal' budgets take their cars.

I would suggest getting advice on a remap if you fit an induction kit.

It’s really not worth the bother unless you are aiming for big power the filter on its own makes no real difference. The standard unit it good for 350 bhp with a decent filter. By replacing with a hks style filter you will also be shortening the life of your maf sensor and increasing the amount of grit getting into the engine. I replaced three mafs arter fitting after market filters....

The standard air box has atleast some shielding from the engine heat.... induction kits don't. Increaded intake temp = reduced power.

Go figure!

It’s not the worst idea either, you have less lag with top mount intercooler. And for a production car it’s perfectly fine.

As for replacing the air filter to a HKS “style” filter one thing you will be doing for sure is raising the charge temps. The original unit works on a cold air feed from the outer wing. By doing this you will be increasing the chances of det and affecting the performance even more on warm days. IMHO if you run an aftermarket filter you need to plumb it in the same way, have a cold air feed from outside the engine bay. Ultimately you want the filter on the inner wing.

I am sure there is plenty more info on here if you run a search.

IIRC the better power was made by the FMIC!

if you listen to Bob Rawle he recommends the RCM induction kit (well he did design it!) Worth noting though that he fitted a cold air feed as suggested above
