Default 03 wrx decat d/p now cel on...drives o.k ideas?

really down now.....been looking for years to have this done and thought against it. thought ill go for it as loads had it done with no issues etc.as above its a 03 wrx ppp with full decat .. but not touched the up pipe.put it on saturday no problems, tried it slowly then increased over a few miles, what a transformation, quicker spool up , revved alot easier and no turbo lag after gear changes at all, just pulled like hell. seemed like when ppp was put on standard car or probably better!
anyway on way to work today not quickly cel light came on. hoping loose lamda sensor? no everything all as should be.
took it to subaru dealership to have code test and they said it was lamda sensor in d/p telling ecu that the CAT was underperforming. as it should as there isnt one now.would a cel fix be the answer to this and where do i get one?
the car seems to run as it did when i first put the d/pipe on before the cel came on, no misfires, still pulls hard (only tried twice just incase).
they said they have heard of this in some cases and people have left it with cell on.
or is it a remap needed ? if so reckon i'll take it off again, shame though as it does seem really good !

i have checked search lists....haven't found owt with still drives o.k ..
thanks in advance

rite mate the code will read catalyst threshold.basically the ecu cant understand why the gases pass the o2 sensor at a faster rate.the cure is a little diode on the o2 sensor wire to the ecu.

scott...have you had a decat and this done and will it be o.k to still drive quick with the diode upgrade ?
i understand the most obvious would be a remap but would it be any better than it is now (its really good) or would it just take away the cel light being on ?

He's got PPP so wont his ECU be remappable unless he has prodrive unlock. CEL fix is easiest in this case me thinks. There must be loads knockin about on here. Post up in wanted - you should pay no more than £25.

cheers

A cel fix "may" sort the CEL out, mostly does but not always, any ecu is mappable, the PPP ecu's have already been done, they just are not "open" so any other tuner needs to use a licence if EcuTeking.

The CEL is a warning, it will still drive as if nothing has happened, as to is it ok to drive depends on the effect on the fueling, assume you got that checked, any remapped car by whomever is always going to be more sensitive to changes like that than a std one. If the fueling is good then it is good assuming no det, just get it checked for peace of mind, no need for a remap unless its needed.

You have CEL P0420 .......cat below efficiency ...as it's not there (the cat) LOL.

Best course of action is to have the car mapped (EcuTeK) to get rid of the CEL, check for any other problems and unleash the potential that is available for the Newage Impreza !!

I'm obviously biased as Bob Rawle Mapped my car but there are loads of mappers out there !!

firstly ....Bob,i was going to ask you personally on here or wait and see if you was still out there, as over the past years you have been ,and for me given honest sound advice, i will probably give you a call about this if i'm right who you are. midlife..........i'm really in a stuck situation here, sounds like i can leave it and hope for the best or have it mapped . i dont want to risk anything really.... i would sooner take it off. i was told today that if the 03 didnt have a cat in the up-pipe then it didnt need a remap. the risk being breakup of the cat into turbo. had a look earlier and i can see a sensor i think, it has a metal neck on it to the sensor where obviously it must get hot ! there also seems to be another sensor before the up-pipe , would that be on the headers? there is so many heat shields its hard to figure it out.
thanks for the replies... i will hopefully get it sorted out, one way or another

I've done the same to mine 2 weeks ago and fitted a downpipe and have had no cel light come on. It's a JDM WRX 2004.
Do they all throw up the faults when downpipe fitted?

Not sure, Before I fitted the downpipe I disconnected the battery to reset the ECU. I've probably done about 2-300 miles now with no light. I'm getting it mapped soon anyway to take full advantage of the system
