Question

Ive got myself booked on the trackday at Bedford at the end of the month and am slightly worried that I wont be able to go on due to noise restrictions. (101 db)

Has anyone (who has the full hks system) got any noise figures for this exhaust or failing that does anyone have a muffler that I could borrow/buy.

Cheers
Mark

Cool

Mark,

it depends on your ECU, state of tune, whether you have had your headers gasflowed and which D/P you have.

With a well tuned Link, BPM d/p and standard headers I measured 102db at Bedford. With the headers gasflowed 97db.

I now have a custom D/P which has probably taken it up to around 102-104db again.

The HKS Can Baffle you will get a reduction of around 5db.

Cheers,

Trout

Thanks Trout - looks a little touch and go then. The car currently has a link with the HKS & scoobymania dp.

So to be on the safeside I think I might need a baffle - Anyone know where to get on of these from? (or does anyone have a sound meter in the Swindon area)

Cheers
Mark

Mark, you didn't say which HKS exhaust you have...the Hiper Dragger (like mine and I think Trout's) is very loud, whereas the Super Dragger is a little quieter. If it's one of the limited edition titanium Hiper's then it's damn loud

If you have a Hiper, with your set up I'm sure that you will need to run with the 'bung' fitted at Bedford.

Now I've got the HKS headers the car is much quieter, plus I can cruise quite happily on the motorway with the stereo at a sensible volume...but some how I think I may have problems at the 'Ring...

I changed my Scooby Sport mid and centre for a hiper last week, its quite a bit louder, you can really hear the boxer effect at idle and on throttle its a deeper niose, I'd say quite a bit louder than the Scooby system I took off.

I'm chuffed with it, although I can't make up my mind if the tail pipes just too damn big

I thought the titanium limited one one exactly the same as standard but just has a fancy tip on the pipe?

Si you are kidding aren't you, you haven't actually got rid of the twin pea shooters

Listening to Top Cat's (Moe) car the other day with the titanium Hiper it was definately louder than mine (pre HKS tubular manifold) and far more raspy...at the time the only difference between our exhaust system was the ported stock manifold that he was running, that should in theory have made the car quieter

Still mine now sounds like the b'stard offspring of a demented beetle and a Honda VTEC...truely insane

Be carefu with the sound meters, different tracks have different approaches - so it may seem fine, but you don't get away with it.

Certainly most HKS Hiper set-ups are marginal, mine has suffered with the custom D/P making it boomy.

There are so many variables that you have to suck it and see.

By the way, you can get a can baffle from BRD or Park Lane. I suspect Branko may have on lying around.
